  • Sixteen Year Nine finalists will compete in the nerve-racking final of the NZ Vegemite Spelling Bee, being held at its new venue, Circa Theatre.
  • The winning student gets a trip to Washington DC along with one other person to compete in the Olympics of Spelling, the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which attracts 11 million hopefuls in the heats annually.
  • Matthew Trundle, Classics Associate Professor at Victoria University and Associate Dean in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, debuts as the bee’s brand new pronouncer.

This event will be of particular interest to year seven and eight students as they will be able to take part in it later this year.
